Popular US video game retailer GameStop has announced that it plans to increase its focus on both smartphones and tablets, rather than video games. GameStop CEO
Paul Raines calls the bold new move “GameStop 3.0.” Raines says the
company will close around 2% of its current retail stores. GameStop will
be opening Spring Mobile and Simply Mac stores instead. Spring
Mobile will cover AT&T-branded phones and Simply Mac covers Apple
products. They will open over 200 Spring Mobile stores and 20 Simply Mac
stores.

I read the news, had a quick bout of pessimism, thought about it, and everything was better.
This isn't some AWMAHGAWD GAMESTAWP GOIN' STOP SELLIN' GAMES!!!!! news, at least not yet. if face value is anything to go off of, the moniker "Gamestop 3.0" (that name coming from Raines himself) would only dictate that Gamestop would like to expand their scope. Besides, they've been buying/selling iPods since forever, so expanding to mobile devices shouldn't hurt.
Also, their choice of brand-peddling is rather strange to me. Why ONLY AT&T branded phones off the jump? Why only Apple products as well? If they're gonna expand their scope, why such a narrow expansion? The mind boggles.
I've seen other people take this shit WAYY outta proportion though.
