Supergiant Games' senior programmer Chris Jurney has quit the company to work for Oculus on its new Rift virtual reality system.
In a tweet today, he said that he is moving on "at the end of the month to help make VR awesome." While at Supergiant, Jurney worked on Bastion and Transistor. Previous positions include lead programmer at Double Fine as well as stints at Relic and Kaos.
"I've always wanted to work in VR," said Jurney in an email interview
with Polygon. "Part of the way I ended up talking to Oculus is because
of a mid-party rant at GDC about how my primary religion is VR, The Lawnmower Man is
one of my favorite movies, and how I can't wait to abandon my meat sack
for a full time virtual existence. I spent 100s of hours in a VFX1
headset in college wandering around Quake 1 looking forward to better future VR that never materialized.
"I think we're on the cusp of truly great fully immersive virtual
experiences, and I want to help make that a reality. I'll be on a small
team doing prototypes, which is my favorite type of work. I'm really
looking forward to getting my hands dirty in virtual space."

More power to him, I guess. *grumble* *grumble* asshole... *grumble* *grumble*
It's great that he's getting to live out his dream of working on VR, truly. There's just two things I'm going to have to deal with:
1) He was the senior goddamn programmer of Supergiant Games. If you're a terrible skimmer and missed the bit where it said he worked on Bastion and Transistor, well you know now. I played Bastion on my computer after playing the demo on the X360 and Transistor on my bro's PS4 and I LOVE both of those games dearly. I'll get over him leaving when I'm 100% sure that his action won't harm the company's production on other games too much.
2) I'm one of those people that really dislikes Oculus being bought by Facebook. I will continue to do so until it's an established fact that Facebook will take a "hands-off" approach with Oculus VR. Until then, I'll continue to not like Facebook. FUCK YOU, FACEBOOK. I HOPE YOU "LIKE THIS" THUMB UP YO ASS!!
